STAFF at a farm animal sanctuary near Bromsgrove came up with an unusual request this week -- for scarecrows.

They are wanted to take part in a competition which will be one of the highlights of an open day being held at the Farm Animal Sanctuary at Stoney Lane, Tardebigge, on Sunday August 27 from 12noon to 6pm.

Maureen Lawless, who runs the sanctuary, said people can either dress up as a scarecrow or make one to take it along on the day.

Would-be Wurzel Gummidges will fight it out for a first prize of a fiver and a super rose bowl.

Other attractions include bugs and bunnies, reptiles, hedgehogs and owls plus demonstrations. Admission is £1 adults, children 50p.
