A Kidderminster student has proved that beauty can come with brains after enjoying a double success.

Helen Frith was delighted to receive the A-level passes she needed to follow her chosen career course.

But the celebrations were extended when on the same day, she was also awarded the title of Miss Coventry.

The 19-year-old Kidderminster College pupil heard last Thursday, that she had passed English, art and design, psychology and general studies exams.

She will now start a degree in English and education studies at University College Worcester in September.

Having beaten a total of 50 other girls to win the Miss Coventry title, Helen is now frantically searching for a sponsor so she can enter the Miss England contest, to be held in London next month.

But the former King Charles I High School pupil from Spennells says teaching comes first.

"After my degree I want to go on to get a PGCE so that I'm a qualified primary school teacher," she said.

"The beauty contest is just a bit of fun. But I couldn't believe it on the night. I had passed my exams and got onto the course I wanted, which I was really pleased about.

"I thought I had had my share of luck for one day.

"My mum and dad are so proud. The whole family were there to support me, which was really nice."

Helen's three older sisters have all entered beauty contests including Jeanne, who qualified for the Miss UK competition three times.

Miss Coventry is the nearest title to Kidderminster, which is eligible for Miss England. The winner of Miss England goes on to compete in Miss World.
