BEAUTY and brains are enviable qualities - and one Kidderminster College student proved she has both in plentiful supply with a special double whammy.

Helen Frith, of Fulmar Crescent, Kidderminster, scooped the title Miss Coventry on Thursday - hours after learning she had passed four A-levels and earned a place at University College Worcester, where she will study to become a teacher.

Hopes of a good luck hat-trick were dashed when her numbers failed to come up on Saturday's lottery draw, but she was still beaming at having beaten more than 50 rivals to the coveted beauty title.

"I got through the photographic heat and there were about 18 other contestants there on the night - I didn't think I'd get anywhere!" she said.

The 19-year-old, who was last year's Kidderminster Carnival Queen, now hopes to go forward into the Miss UK competition if she can find a sponsor.

She is still celebrating A-level passes in art and design, English, general studies and psychology, which have won her a place on a three-year English and education studies course.
