THE letter in last week's Journal by G O'Donnell is just typical of the "I'm alright Jack" selfish attitude that exists today.

He/she claims the move would be more convenient for the majority of PO users - on what information is this based? You only have to stand in the High Street for 10 minutes or so and observe what is happening to see this is not true.

People, many of them pensioners, some with walking sticks etc. alight from the buses and visit the post office. They then go straight into the market next door and then over to Kwik Save supermarket to do their shopping. For these people, especially those who have difficulty in walking large distances, the location of the post office and the surrounding markets and supermarket is vital to their independence and ability to support themselves.

What about the fact the post office counter staff will lose their jobs? Obviously G O'Donnell has never been on the receiving end of redundancy.

A town the size of Evesham should have a prominent post office, staffed by professional competent people, who are capable of dealing with all aspects and queries of the post office's wide-ranging services not some second rate counter squeezed in between the aisles of an already congested supermarket, and staffed by a half-trained till girl, whose only ability is to be able to sell stamps.

Once removed from the High Street it is far too easy for these services to be removed altogether.

I too am lucky enough to have a car G. O'Donnell, and yes I too could make the journey to Riverside just as easily, but there are many others who, unfortunately for them, cannot.

PS: I have no connections with the PO at all, just in case anyone believes it is in my own interests to write this.
