WITH regard to the article about disabled drivers in the August 17 issue, as a pedestrian I would like to point out that although I sympathise with the plight of most disabled drivers, there are a few who don't deserve it.
There was a case in question a few months ago when I assisted a gentleman in a wheelchair up onto the pavement in town because an orange badge holder had parked (as they frequently do) across the kerb's lowered area.
When I pointed out the thoughtlessness and inconvenience of his actions, he replied with a curt: "I'm disabled, I can park where I like".
I've often seen elderly or disabled people struggling in situations like this and would ask them to offer others the same courtesy as they would expect.
