STEPPED up to a mile for the first time, Snowey Mountain looks the best bet of the day to get off the mark in the Saxham Nursery at Newmarket tomorrow afternoon.

Neville Callaghan has been enduring a torrid spell of form over the last couple of seasons but said recently that he thought the bad times were over and his horses were starting to recover from the virus that laid them low for so long.

Snowey Mountain was well-backed to score on his debut in nursery company last time out at Redcar but found everything happening too quickly for him over six furlongs, staying on late to finish third.

However, this mile ought to prove much more suitable for the son of Inchinor and punters who followed the money at Redcar can redress the balance here.

Tensile is an interesting contender in the Breheny Stakes (Showcase Handicap).

Bought at the sales for 28,000 guineas by champion jumps trainer Martin Pipe, his long-term future may well lie over obstacles.

But there was plenty to like about his debut for the Pipe yard at Chester earlier this month, where he stayed on to finish a close-up third to Fantasy Hill in a race that was run at an unsuitably slow pace.

His form had tailed off a bit for previous trainer James Fanshawe but thechange of surroundings may just have revitalised him and he is well-handicapped on the pick of his form from last season.

Henry Candy's northern raiders are few and far between but those do make the journey tend from Wantage are worth following and Proletariat can take the petrol money in the opening EBF Maiden at Thirsk.

The form of her fourth to Hurricane Floyd at Newmarket took a massive boost when runner-up Bannister took the Group Two Gimcrack Stakes at York this week and anything like a repetition of that would surely be good enough.
