Long Marston: THE Clerk read several letters from the Telegraph Department at a meeting of Marston Sicca Rural Council last Tuesday, regarding the extension of telegraphy from Long Marston to Pebworth. They stated there should be no difficulty in finding sites for the poles, which would not be an obstruction to traffic. An inspection of the road showed that all the poles would be at least six feet from the metalled roadway, and the Department asked for the sanction of the Council to erect the same. On the proposition of the Chairman, Mr W T Jordan, seconded by Mr Wyatt, formal consent was given.

Stratford: AT a meeting of Stratford-on-Avon Rural District Council last Friday, the Housing Committee recommended advertising for an architect to supply plans and specifications for cottages to be erected in 12 months on eight sites in the district and to accept the responsibility for executing the contract, with remuneration at three per cent. This was based on the amount of the contract exclusive of the site but inclusive of travelling and out of pocket expenses. They recommended that efforts be made to obtain a site for four houses in Stratford Road, Wellesbourne Hastings, and four houses in Loxley.

Shottery: A SHOTTERY boy won a balloon race when his balloon was found to have travelled to France. Andrew Evans, 10, of the Lea, released the balloon at a Conservative fete held at Shottery Grange last month. A self-addressed postcard was attached to each of the 100 balloons released, so the finder could return it to its owner. Andrew's balloon was returned from a place called "Pres Arras, Pas de Calais", but the sender's name was not legible. Andrew won £1 for winning the race.

Stratford: STRATFORD District Council, which at the beginning of the month was owed £360,000 in unpaid rates for the half year, will be sending out its final demands in the next few days. Mr Norman Price, the council's deputy treasurer, said it was hoped that people who had not paid up at that stage would do so and avoid the necessity to issue summonses. A number of ratepayers had been taken to court at Stratford and Southam for unpaid 1974 rates.
