PERSHORE completed an amazing double over near neighbours Evesham in Worc-estershire County League games on Saturday.
What made the results more unusual was that both Pershore teams defeated their rivals by ten wickets as their struggling opponents just managed to scrape a hundred runs between the the two sides.
In the first team encounter, skipper Trevor Ridings won the toss and invited Evesham to bat on a good looking wicket.
Openers Barry Clements and Dave Higginson looked in little trouble until wicket keeper Dave Wickersham pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss Clements.
The seam attack of Phil Oxley and Lea Hawkes bowling unchanged throughout the innings and created havoc.
The next nine wickets fell for the addition of only 41 runs as Evesham were shot out for a paltry 66.
Oxley and Hawkes returned the identical figures of 5 for 31.
Stephen Cooper and John Brookes had little trouble in knocking off the required runs with Cooper finishing unbeaten on 39, seven 4s and one 6, , while the steadier Brookes was 17 not out in the ten-wicket rout.
In the second string game at Evesham, Pershore fielded a team of experience and outstanding youth players.
Events were even more remarkable with the home side batting first and being dismissed for just 35.
Richard Brereton grabbed 6 for13 and Steve Emsley (3-6) in the destruction, while stumper Dave Price pocketed a quartet of victims.
Pershore's teenage opening pair Liam Ridings (15) and 13-year-old Sam Howell had little difficulty in putting on the 36 runs needed to secure an emphatic victory.
