Bredon Parish Council: The question of the erection of mobile telephone masts was discussed once again. District Councillor Brian Lewis said discussions were still continuing between three different companies, and the question of having three masts in a cluster near the railway line was currently under discussion. Mr Lewis said that Sir Michael Spicer was still keeping contact with the companies involved. A letter was received requesting that the parish council should look into the possibility of creating public moorings at Bredon dock. It was suggested that the provision of such an amenity would encourage tourists to visit the parish to view the barn and the church, and also to use the shops and the public houses. The subject was debated, and it was agreed that many aspects, such as health and safety issues and supervision would have to be investigated. It was agreed that a feasibility study should be made, and to that end a small committee was proposed which could be aided by some of the signatories of the letter. Chairman, Derek Grainger reported that several tons of stones had been moved to the Glebe field by Mr Richard Washbourne to help in the completion of the wall. It was reluctantly agreed that the capstones would have to be Bradstone, since Cotswold stone cappings would cost over £5,000. The completion work should be done on the wall in the Autumn. Councillor Brian Lewis made a request that posters should be removed from telegraph poles as soon as the event advertised was over. It was agreed that too many had a detrimental effect on the village. County Councillor Adrian Hardman said that Church Street was to be resurfaced in September. It was agreed that there would be problems with parked cars, since the school term would have started. Mr Hardman said that the possibility of completing the work on a Sunday had been discussed. The next meeting is fixed for September 11 at 7pm. Don't forget the Save The Children "Back Again" sale of good quality nearly new clothes in Bredon Village Hall on September 4 at 7pm. Entrance will cost £1, but will cover a glass of wine. If more details are required phone 01684 772477.
BIKE RIDE: How fit are you? Do you ride a bike? If the answer to both questions is yes, then you might like to take up the challenge of the sponsored bike ride on September 9. The proceeds of the ride will go half to our local church, and half to the Worcester and Dudley Historic Churches Trust. Details and sponsorship forms are available from Mr Walsh on telephone 01684 773067.
BREDON HANCOCKS ENDOWED FIRST SCHOOL: Headmaster Matthew Lloyd reports that the school now has a website which will be linked to relevant Bredon websites. Other school news relates to the millennium development of the school field where an amphitheatre of logs which can seat the whole school has been dedicated during the first outdoor assembly by the Rector the Rev Matthew Baynes. It is very good to know that the number of pupils learning to play musical instruments continues to grow, with guitar, clarinet, violin and recorders favourites. Three of the violinists now attend county orchestra practice - we are proud of them.
PLAYGROUP: Tributes have been paid by both the stepping out pre-school group and Bredon Playgroup to Jo Wenham who is moving on to full time work helping her husband's company. Jo's support of the interests of the young of Bredon will not cease, however, since, as a parish councillor she can represent their interests particularly in plans for the play area.
