VILLAGE FETE: It is almost village fete time in Ilmington, and all the local organisations are frantically trying to find enough people to help with their various fund-raising activities. As usual the success of all these projects depends on the weather, and prayers are being said and fingers are being crossed that Bank Holiday Monday is fine.
A year of planning for the fete, which is combined with the Ilmington Horticultural Society's open flower and produce show, will again ensure that there are many attractions for all the family. This year there will be no local classes in the flower show, as in previous years there were very few exhibitors from outside the village. This means that there will be no duplication of vegetable and flower classes. The fete always brings in visitors from a wide area, and this year the attractions include an exciting five-a-side football contest and a dog agility display. There will be a children's fancy dress competition, vintage cars and tractors, the Shirley Pipe Band and the A D Concert Band. There will also be children's games and amusements, and a car boot sale on the site.
