PERSHORE AND DISTRICT FILM SOCIETY: Film at Number 8 'Othello; starring Kenneth Branagh. Saturday, 7.30 pm. Would film society members please note a change to the advertised programme for September 2. Film will now be 'Cider House Rules' an Oscar winning performance by Michael Caine.
GARDENING CLUB: The July meeting was very well attended - almost 50 members were welcomed by chairman George Featonby. The speaker for the evening was Brenda Jones, who talked about The Use of Colour in the Garden. Samples of a very wide variety of perennials, annuals, and foliage plants were used to illustrate an interesting and informative talk. The competition for the month - a bouquet of herbs - was won by Angela Points, with Betty Loach second and Marion Hill third. The second trip of the summer took place on Thursday, August 10, when we visited the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The weather was kind and it was a most enjoyable day, with plenty of walking for the energetic and loads of seats to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There is no August meeting, so the next meeting will be on September 28, when the Principal of Pershore College, Dr David Hall, will give a talk entitled 'Garden Hints and Wrinkles', and the competition will be 'a plant you have propagated this year'.
PERSHORE FARMERS' MARKET AND PLUM FAIR: is being held next Monday between 10am and 3pm in Broad Street, Pershore. Local farmers and growers will be selling quality fresh local produce direct. They will be selling seasonal fruit and vegetable, fresh baked bread and pastries, fruit juice, eggs, cheese, a display of local plum varieties and the launch of new Pershore plum, the Pershore emblem. There will also be Scottish dancers and a 'Mummers' play, honey and beeswax products, crafts and charity stalls. The Pershore Farmer's Market is operated by E G Skett and Co, on behalf of Wychavon DC.
PERSHORE ABBEY: On Bank Holiday Monday, commencing at 7.30pm the Cathedral Singers of Christ Church, Oxford, will be performing in the Abbey. The director is Robert Webb and the organist, Ian Hig ginson. They will be singing 'Songs of Farewell' - Parry, Bruckner-Motets, Durufle-Motets and Stanford-Motets. Tickets are £8 (concessions £5) and are available on the door.
THE FRIENDS OF PERSHORE ABBEY: Are holding their annual Festival of Friends of the Abbey on Saturday, September 9 commencing at 3pm. The Festival Service, at which the preacher will be the Rt Reverend Dr Peter Selby, Bishop of Worcester, will be followed by a buffet tea in St Andrew's Parish Centre, and the AGM will commence at 4.45pm.
