PARISH COUNCIL: At the beginning of the August meeting of the Wellesbourne Parish Council, councillors were told that due to sudden illness, the parish clerk, Mrs S E Freeman had tendered her resignation to the chairman, councillor D J Close. Mrs Freeman has served as clerk to the council for the last 10 years and has seen and implemented many changes and improvements in parish council procedure during that time. Apart from attending regular council meetings she also attended all committee meetings and frequently represented the parish council or the village on other occasions. One of her biggest tasks was the implementation of new government accounting legislation for local government. Other major involvements were the production of the biennial issue of the 'index of shops and amenities' for Wellesbourne and Walton, the establishment of the first parish council office at the police station and the co-ordination of grass cutting of open spaces and verges which is done by the district council, the county council and a private contractor. Councillors agreed that Mrs Freeman did a tremendous job and the chairman, councillor D J Close undertook to pass on their thanks and best wishes.
