IT'S the small fry who aren't being catered for in Worcester, according to a businessman who contacted me after reading last week's County Commentary.

My article referred to there being quite a bit of employment land in the city to rent, although I noted that much of it was in the order of 10,000sq ft - which won't set pulses racing among the large developers.

But Joe Maitland, who has a business in Pershore and was keen to find new office space on the south-eastern perimeter of Worcester, pointed out that the "big guys can look after themselves".

"Pershore's Keytec business park has a lot to offer but we want somewhere in Worcester," he said.

"The Grove Farm plans are all very well, but we need something now. And we're not interested in places like Blackpole Industrial Estate."

Access for HGVs was the main complaint about the older part of the Blackpole estate, he added, where the red-brick buildings have few parking spaces outside.

"You park and then a few moments later someone knocks on the window and asks you to move because they need to get out," Mr Maitland said.

"And Blackpole just doesn't look any good. It's not very interesting."

By contrast, the Keytec Industrial Estate - with its 2,000sq ft units designed for the tiny economic players - or Evesham's Vale Park - appear to cut the mustard for those willing to travel outside Worcester.
