ON Monday evening, in the Isle of Man, after three practice sessions, Jim Curry achieved his goal of qualification for the Junior Classic Manx Grand Prix.
Riding his 1968, 350 Drixton Aermacchi he completed the compulsory five laps, one of which had to be under 29 minutes.
His final lap, in a time of 25.32.8, at an average speed of 88.61mph, left him 11th fastest in the session in a field of 78.
Afterwards he said: "This is the culmination of all my efforts to raise money for the Oncology Centre at Cheltenham General and the pressure is now off.
"All the generous pledges I received are now redeemable, but it will take a couple of months to collect them.
"I am delighted with the bike, but, with six more possible practice sessions, I may be able to get within Silver Replica time (11/10 of the average time of the 1st four finishers) which I expect to be 90/91 mph average.
"However, the important thing was to qualify and I've done that. I can look forward to the race now, next Wednesday."
