A MATCH between Bret-forton Extras and Bretforton Ladies brought an interesting end to this the Summer League season.
One of the major reasons for running the competition was to enable young and up and coming players to mix and develop at senior level.
With this in mind, the Bretforton squad was split into two equal teams, including juniors.
There was plenty of pride at stake ad a higher placing in the final table to play for and it was Extras who were forced to soak up most of the pressure in the opening quarter.
However, the defence held strong and, from a breakaway, Lisa Workman latched on to an early ball out of defence to set up Jane Blackwell for a great strike,
Wendy Cooper hardly let a ball past her at right defence for the Extras and the rearguard remained unbreached as Fiona Baldelli saved well and the defence were equal to everything the Ladies had to offer.
Bretforton juniors Kate Mitchell, Ami Trotman, Abi Gisbourne, Lorna Beddis, Lisa Harris and Hannah and Fiona Jordan have all benefited from their baptism at this level and have all played superbly during the season.
Training takes place at Evesham High School (Astroturf) on Wednesday nights from 7pm.
Shipston were the winners of the league and followed Evesham and Stratford as Summer champions.
Latest results - Stratford 1, Evesham 2; Blockley 3, Badsey 0; Droitwich 0, Shipston 2; Bretforton Extras 1, Bretforton.
