A Worcester pub will say a special thank you to the County Air Ambulance this weekend after it saved the lives of two of its customers.

The Goodrest Inn, in Barker Street, off Rainbow Hill, has planned a fun day tomorrow to help raise cash for the service.

Among the many helped by the Air Ambulance is Claire Banks, who was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, following a head-on car smash.

Claire, whose mum works at The Goodrest, suffered injuries to her face, arm, leg and head and believes the flying paramedics saved her life.

"I was told that if I hadn't have been airlifted I wouldn't have survived the accident," she said.

"I owe a lot to them and I think they do a fantastic job. I think we should all support the Air Ambulance because nobody knows what's around the corner do they?"

Another grateful customer is Bob Hayward, of Vigornia Avenue, off Rainbow Hill. His wife Maureen suffers from heart disease and collapsed at work eight years ago.

"A land ambulance came out but the traffic on the roads was so bad that they called the Air Ambulance," he said.

"It happened during Bank Holiday weekend and the roads were chaotic. I think the guys at Hereford and Worcester Ambulance service and the Air Ambulance are fantastic.

"As far as I'm concerned they saved my wife's life. I will always be grateful to them. They're the best."

Various activities for the family are planned for Saturday, including a clown face painter as well as a barbecue.

In the evening the pub will have live entertainment and a Mr and Mrs competition.

"With a few of us being helped by this service we wanted to do something to say thank you and give something back," said manager Steven Forward.

"We hope people will come along, have a good time and help a brilliant cause at the same time."

The fun day kicks off at 12pm and will run into the evening. A race night will also take place at the pub on Bank Holiday Monday. All proceeds will be donated to the Air Ambulance.
