The sudden death of Mrs Mabel Parham at her home at Hartpury was a great shock to her many friends in the village where she had become a valued and much respected member of the community since she and her husband had moved to the village.

Mrs Parham was born at Tottenham, London and became a Girl Guide at the age of 11 and devoted a great part of her life to guiding running her own Guide Company and eventually becoming a County Commissioner.

She was a Civil Servant when she met her future husband, Dennis in 1939, both were keen bell ringers, the war intervened and they were married in 1946 and had a son and two daughters. They lived at Beverley in Yorkshire before moving to Gloucestershire.

Mabel joined Hartpury WI and later became Secretary, she also became a valued member of Hartpury, Corse & Staunton MU several years ago and also used her talents as Secretary, with many a humourous comment added to her minutes and she loved nothing better than adapting if a speaker could not come. She will be greatly missed. Our sympathy is extended to Dennis and family. Many friends joined with her family at the funeral service at St Mary's Church, Hartpury on Friday, August 18 to pay their last respects. The service was conducted by Canon John Evans and interment followed in the new extension of the churchyard.
