CONGRATULATIONS to Douglas and Margaret (late of Powick) who have celebrated their Golden Anniversary.
Married at St Peter's Church, Powick, they lived in Bowling Green Road before moving to Ronkswood. They both worked at Powick Hospital during the 1970's and 80's. Friends and family organised a surprise party in Worcester with 150 guests attending.
Congratulations to Ann James of The Drive, Colletts Green, who is exhibiting her paintings at an exhibition to be held in the Sir Barry Jackson Room at Theatre House, Grange Road, Malvern on Saturday, August 26 until Saturday, September 2. Ann started painting seven years ago when she attended classes at Malvern Hills College; her subjects include Powick Church.
Good luck and goodbye to Ann Reeves on her retirement, after 14 years as Warden of Collett's Green Sheltered Housing in The Orchard. She will be missed by the residents, especially for her organisation of Coffee Mornings, Bingo sessions and outings as well as her caring role.
At St Peter's Church last Sunday morning four babies were baptised and welcomed into the Church. They were Aaron James Duffett of Lower Wick, Laura Isabel Morgan of Highfields, Callow End, Ryan James Wilson of Worcester and Samuel James Bartlett of Worcester. The Rev David Nichol conducted the service, with reading by Lynn Nichol, prayers led by Meg Allsopp and organ played by Sally Linsey.
Starting tomorrow, (Saturday) and running until Tuesday, August 29 there will be an Exhibition of Old Local Photographs and the History of the Churchyard Head-stones, in St Peter's Church from 10am till 6pm daily. Entrance is free (any donations will go to the Restoration Fund). Light refreshments will be available and stewards will be on hand to welcome visitors. If you missed the last exhibition at Callow End Village Hall, here is your chance to see Powick and the village as it was.
The annual Historic Churches Bike Ride takes place on Saturday, September 9, to help raise money towards maintaining the historic churches of Worcestershire. St Peter's has received help from the ride in the past. For those who wish to take part, details are available from the church or the Vicar, along with sponsorship forms.
