LEE Finch, riding a private trial, was the winner of the Worcester St John's Cycling Club's mid-week time trial on the Clerkenleap course.

Recently signed by Cycles Clements, the Kempsey-based racing cyclist completed the ten miles circuit in 21 minutes 43 seconds just ahead of Gavin Poupart.

In third place, Kevin Sargent was timed at 24.17, while veterans John Callaghan and Pete Jansen had a close scrap for fourth place, with the contest going to Callaghan by a second in 24.32.

The remaining top places went to Alan Bennett, 25.02, Nobby Clarke, 25.11, Martin Staines, 25.20, Rob Finch, 25.33, and Adrian Wynne, V C Sevale, 25.55.

Once again the women's race was won by Gill Thomas in 26.19, ahead of Maureen Burrows, 26.50, Karen Metcalfe, 27.54, Ros Hope, 28.42, and Maggie Johnson Myers, 29.41.

Gavin Poupart's successful season in road races continued with eleventh place in the V C Ashby 83 miles event.

The winning break of fifteen riders included Poupart and Adrian Bird (Robert Grinsell Travels).

Glyn Shirley, Mark Lovatt, John Stollery and Matt Bottrell opened a gap in the final miles, with Shirley, of Rutland CC, taking the honours from Lovatt.

Poupart finished two places ahead of Bird, earning sufficient points to qualify as an elite rider.

In time trials, Callaghan again finished under the hour in the Merthyr CC "25," with 58.54. The race was won by Collin Wallace in 53.55.

Tricyclist Roger Alma completed the CC Breckland 12 hours race with a total of 183.1 miles.

TA president Martin Purser (Lincoln Wheelers) rode 209 miles for first place in the tricycle section. The final two hours were enlivened by a thunder storm and torrential rain.
