MALVERN Town have opened their Banks's Brewery League premier Division campaign with two draws.
Town Assistant Manager Richard Anson commenting on Tuesday night's 3-3 draw with Lye Town and Saturday's scoreless draw at Tividale said: "We were not unhappy with Saturdays result, we defended exceptionally well and restricted the home side to precious few opportunities, in fact we did contemplate making a couple of changes that might have increased our attacking options, but both manager Joe Rawle and myself settled for a result we would have been happy about before the game."
As for Tuesday nights 3-3 draw at home to Lye Town, Anson said: "We were disappointed with the result, but did exceptionally well to come back from 1-3 down to earn a draw, particularly having been reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of Darren Wade."
Anson would not be drawn on some seemingly controversial decisions made by the match referee, only to say that: "The quality of refereeing seems to be becoming a bigger problem in the Banks' League and there is no doubt that it is not of the standard of a couple of years ago.
"We believe the League has lost its contributory status as far as referees are concerned and it is only since then that we have appeared to have suffered problems."
Tomorrow (Saturday) Town have an attractive home game against Darlaston Town (3pm).
The visitors were involved in a Championship challenge last year and in Simon Archer and Dean Walters possess two of the leagues most potent strikers.
Anson continued: "Everyone knows Darlaston will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and we need to build on a start that really should have seen us yield four points rather than two, but it should be a good game and if we can eradicate the mistakes that we made on tuesday night, we are more than capable of picking up all three points."
Manager Joey Rawle will select from: Sanders, Higgins, Cotterill, Damore, Walker, Clayton, Bastock, D.Wade, Ward, Maidment, Brooks, Ward, Thomas, Congrave, Judge, Shepherd, Slade and Abercrombie.
On Bank Holiday Monday Town visit Westfields (3pm).
