THE public will be able to see the inner workings of Malvern Hills District Council for the first time since it was reformed last year.

The majority Conservative group announced in a statement released yesterday that it was in favour of the press and public being allowed to attend meetings of the ruling Executive Board.

The Conservative group and council leader Reg Farmer said in his statement: "After a thorough and comprehensive review, we firmly believe that good local government is enhanced by having an accountable and transparent decision making process.

"Therefore we concluded that in future the public would be welcome to attend meetings of the Executive Board."

The group will bring forward proposals to the next full council meeting on September 12.

The issue was already scheduled to be debated at that meeting and the Liberal Democrats were preparing to bring proposals forward for wider reform.

Liberal Democrat leader, Coun Tom Wells, said: "I am delighted we have managed to persuade the Conservatives to support the Liberal Democrat campaign to open up the council."
