LEIGH Sinton racer, Steve Warburton, crashed out during a first lap drama in Round Nine of 'thealphaclub.com MGF Cup' at Silverstone on Sunday.
After qualifying fourth on the grid, the Frepau Racing team driver moved up to second before colliding with race leader Alastair Lyall in a 100mph incident that saw his race come to a premature end with severe front-end damage and Lyall lose 17 places before battling from the back to claim fourth spot.
Uninjured Warburton later told race officials he had suffered brake failure.
An action packed race, which saw five cars fail to finish, was dominated by Warburton's team mate, Jamie Hunter, who led from the end of the first lap to close the gap on Championship leader, Alastair Lyall.
Warburton will be back in action on the weekend of September 2&3 when the PowerTour Series moves to Snetterton, Norfolk for Round Ten with qualifying on the Saturday and race day on the Sunday.
