Barnt Green Spartak (0) 0 Droitwich Spa (0) 1
BOTH teams struggled to find their rhythm early on thanks to the slippery conditions and long grass in this Midland Football Combination League Division Two clash on Sat-urday.
Spa's goalkeeper, Melvin Watson, made two outstanding first half saves from the Barnt Green forwards to keep Droitwich level.
The second half saw more controlled football and on 55 minutes a Wayne Smith cross was met by Gary Cleaver who was adjudged to have been bundled over in the box.
The referee pointed to the spot much to the surprise of the players and spectators.
Carl Nesbitt stepped up and coolly sent the keeper the wrong way to put Droitwich Spa 1-0 up.
The injury hit Spa side then held out well from intense Barnt Green pressure, inspired by captain Brian Sommers.
