A FOOTBALL team is finally up and running on a Droitwich Spa estate.
The new club in Westlands will play in the Worcester and District Saturday League Division One.
The Fox and Goose has 30 members and will start the league campaign with an away match on Saturday at 3pm.
Club chairman Billy Eastbury said: "At last something good is coming out of the estate.
"It's a deprived area and there's nothing else for kids to do. Ninety per cent of the players are from the estate and at school leaving age.
"This team has taken kids off the streets and there is already an improvement in Westlands. These lads have something to do and they are now keeping an eye on others.
"People have been trying to organise a team here for several years but it's never quite worked out before."
The club has been launched as part of a project called Football In The Westlands Community. The players are aged between 15 and 26 and organisers aim to set up youth teams in the future.
The Fox and Goose will play home games at King George Playing Fields with the first match on September 9.
Billy said getting the lads involved in the game was as important as the results but he hoped they would finish in a respectable place in the league.
