REDDITCH Citizens Advice Bureau is appealing for more volunteers to tie in with the launch of National Advice Week, which begins on Friday.
About 75 per cent of Redditch CAB workers are volunteers and most of these work as advisers, providing free, confidential advice on a variety of issues, while others offer information technology skills, clerical help and language skills.
The branch has 10 paid workers and five of these initially started out as volunteers.
Formal qualifications are not a requirement and CAB training and experience can lead to finding paid work.
Training takes about six months, followed by a further six months of supervised work, culminating in a certificate accredited by the Open College Network.
A spokesman who joined Redditch CAB in March said: "Training has been hard work but I've had support and encouragement from guidance tutors and I'm now ready to meet the challenge that CAB offers.
"It's a great way to develop skills, knowledge and confidence and it improves job prospects, which is a big attraction."
