THERE has been another busy week of angling in the open season.
The Starlets veterans of Northfield were at Lower Broadheath's Old and Willow Pools for their latest encounter on Tuesday.
Bewdley's Brian Hill showed the way from Willow peg 13 where he pole fished breadflake at a foot deep for 49-6-0 of carp, second place went to Doreen Putnam (Quinton) with 28-7-0 from opposite peg nine, third John Joyce (Rubery) 23-1-0.
Tuesday saw the latest in the series of the Steadfast 2000 Junior Opens at Moorlands Farm, which was won by 11-year-old Grant Knott (West Bromwich) with 42-2-0 of bream and carp taken with pole and corn from Meadow Pool peg 40, close weights followed with second placed Ryan Tipper (Quarry Bank) taking 41-14-0, third Sam Brown (Worcester) 36-6-0.
Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) was the winner of the Moorlands Farm Wednesday Open by pole fishing corn at Meadow Pool peg 15 for a 93-2-0 catch, runner-up Steve Watson (Strettons) had 77-5-0, third Rick Clayton (Strettons) 67-5-0.
At Astwood Fisheries, The Bluebell Pool Open saw a close result headed by Mark Robersen (Stoke Prior) with 23-10-0 of corn fed carp on the pole from peg six, second Alan Hodgkins (Phoenix) 23-0-0, third Paul Webley (Kateshill AC) 16-10-0. Fourteen-year-old (Droit-wich) youngster Luke Hughes took top spot at the Leeda Junior Open at Elmbridge's Peacock Pool with a pole and meat catch of 23-4-0 from peg three, second Tom Edwards (Cutnall Green) 10-2-0, third Tom Clarke (Northwick) 8-10-0.
On Thursday, the Leeda Junior Open at Broad Acres saw nine-year-old Redditch lad Jake Newton make it two wins on the trot with a close top score of 18-9-0 of carp and skimmers taken with pole and corn from peg 32, second John Burton (Broad Acres Youth) 17-4-0, third Sam Newton (Redditch) 16-13-0.
Moorlands Farms Special Open was headed by Mark Tooze (Lea Hall) just missing the ton with 98-5-0 from Bank Pool peg 18 taken with pole, corn and meat, second Warren Blizzard (M N Autos) 83-3-0, third Lee Richards (Fosters Tipton) 81-9-0.
Friday's Costcutter Open was held on the Bank Pool and a close result was headed by Bob Jones (Moorlands) with a waggler and meat catch of 120-4-0 from peg 11, second Steve Watson (Strettons) 119-12-0, third Lee Richards (Fosters Tipton) 91-7-0.
The Moorlands Farm Saturday Open was won by Brian Hill (Warley) with a 66-3-0 catch from Meadow Pool peg 28 taken with pole and meat, he also collected the link-peg jackpot of £2,000, runner-up Wayne Mellings (Fosters Tipton) had 65-5-0, third Chris Hill (Fosters MG) 54-14-0.
On Sunday, Astwood Fisheries Buddleia Pool Open was topped by Frank McLauchlen (Kings Oak) by pole fishing casters and corn at peg 57 for three tench plus silver fish for 19-2-0, second Kevin Crowley (Austin SS) 16-0-0, third Mike Smith (Austin SS) 12-8-0.
The Horseshoe Pool Open at Alvechurch Fisheries saw Colin Pace (Needless AC) pole fish chopped worms at peg eight for a 49-3-0 catch, second Albert Jones (Alvechurch) 40-12-0, third Richard Johns (Alvechurch) 37-4-0.
Dave Hill (Fosters MG) was the winner of the Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool Open with a pole, corn and meat catch of 63-13-0 from peg 54, his team mate Clive Payne was second with 59-9-0, third Brian Cawley (British Worm Breeders) 56-10-0.
The evening event was a big scoring match headed by Ian Giddins (Storey's) with 123-10-0 of carp taken with pole and corn from peg 23 on the Bank Pool, second Chris Hill (Fosters MG) 119-11-0, third Mick Henshaw (Fosters MG) 111-15-0.
Pole fished maggots was the winning formula for Paul Cook (Furnace Mill) at the Furnace Mill Afternoon Open for an 89-0-0 carp haul from Mucky Meadow Pool peg 49, Vladmer Giochev (Furnace Mill) followed with a mainly bream catch of 55-10-0 which included fish up to nine pounds, third Ade Guest (M N Autos) 43-0-0.
Woodlands View record holder Kevin Slade (AOK) came good again by pole fishing corn and meat at Arles Pool peg seven for 142-11-0, runner-up Lee Richards (Fosters Tipton) had 127-10-0 with Chris Robson (AOK) third with 124-6-0.
