Hospital Cup
Studley FC 2, Railway 2
(Railway won on penalties)
Studley FC went out of the Hospital Cup in the worst possible way, conceding a last-minute goal and then losing on penalties.
From the start, Railway made their intentions known by contesting every ball and working hard to nullify the football played by Studley.
As the game progressed, Railway were the better team, pressing forward and looking dangerous with their pacey strike force.
It was no surprise that in the 24th minute, Railway took the lead when Matt Somner broke away and netted with a fine 20-yard drive into the bottom corner of the net.
In the second half, Studley came back into the game and although way below their best, at least competed with Railway.
In the 51st minute, Jason Harris struck a fine 15-yard shot, which the keeper failed to hold and Ryan Field followed up and struck home.
Studley were on top now but were shaken when Railway were awarded a debatable penalty. However, Mark Sanders produced a fine save.
Studley were doing all the pressing now and 10 minutes from the end, Lee Adams scored following a well worked corner.
There seemed only one winner when, in the last minute, Railway scored from a cross cum shot that went in off the post.
When the game went to penalties, Studley only had themselves to blame and Railway ran out deserved winners, although rather lucky.
On Saturday, Studley are away to Badsey United in a league tie.
