CELEBRITIES Patsy Palmer, John Barnes and Simon Weston are backing the first national advertising campaign ai-med at recruiting more officers for West Mercia Constabulary.
The Could You campaign, costing £7m, was launched today to run three years.
Advertisements for the force, which covers Worcestershire, Shropshire and Herefordshire, will appear on national TV, in newspapers, on radio and in cinemas.
It is hoped the campaign will provide the police force with high quality recruits to help fill the 152 extra vacancies being provided over the next three years.
News of the campaign was released this morning as part of the Government' s plan to tackle crime as announced by Chancellor Gordon Brown in his spending review in July.
West Mercia's chief constable Peter Hampson said: " I welcome the national recruiting campaign and hope it will encourage men and women from all communities to come forward and find out more about a career in the police service."
The Government has pledged to increase police spending by nearly four per cent a year over the next three years.
