POLICE are still trying to identify the body of a man - believed to have Worcester links - found in a Coventry hotel room.

He was found at the Ibis Hotel in Cheylesmore, where he had give his address as Foregate Street, Worcester.

But the address was not residential and the trail has gone cold.

"We've had a number of people respond as a result of the appeal but, as yet, we've had no one come forward who can actually match the description up and identify him," said Coventry coroner's officer Brian Sharp today.

"We've circulated his details to all forces in Britain to check against missing persons.

"A photo's been circulated and we're looking at the possibility of putting it on the internet.

"It's a photo found in his possession which looks like it was taken on holiday, possibly as a self-portrait.

"In 30 years we've only had one person we were unable to identify."

The man, who appears to have signed the register as Curtis or John Smith, gave his date of birth as June 5, 1961.

West Midlands Police say he watched the Premiership match between Coventry City and Middlesbrough at Highfield Road on Saturday, August 19, sitting in the lower tier of the M&B stand, block nine, row J.

He was later seen drinking in the hotel bar and documents found on him indicate a link with Alcoholics Anonymous, that he had visited Thailand in June, and that he could come from Worcester or Kidderminster.
