PERSHORE Abbey organist Ian Gerrard is one of the organisers of a George Gershwin concert in the Abbey on September 28, which is being held to raise funds for two local children's charities.
Acorns Children's Hospice Trust helps local children who are not expected to reach adulthood, and supports their families. Ian's younger daughter Lindsay died in 1992, aged eight, from a genetically inherited metabolic disease.
The second charity Climb aims to ensure the best possible quality of life for children, young people and families affected by metabolic disease, while funding innovative research.
There are potentially over 1,300 metabolic diseases, all rare, all inherited and all incurable.
The concert, which will include a jazz quartet, a classical quintet, pianist and vocalists, begins at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £9 and £7.50, are available from Acorns Hospice shop, 29 High Street, Pershore, or on the door.
