TODAY'S Britain. It is good to sit back and consider the world about us. Are we proud of the way it is progressing? For example the increasing degree of depravity on TV. If not, what should we do about it?
I think it is a characteristic of most people in this country, that we don't bother about things until they become no longer acceptable in or to a civilised society. In a way it's similar to the situation in 1939 when the ambitions of Hitler had to be stopped.
Today it is the very powerful influence of TV allowing some programmes, which are quite shameful, disgusting and harmful to younger people. It is mainly due to the indifference of central government and Parliament, for they control our legislation as to what the TV companies can broadcast.
If the makers of programmes say that the public wants this kind of stuff on their screens, well, if true, we get what we deserve, and as a nation we're heading for trouble. Such producers are quite happy to make money out of it, and at the incompetence of our legislators. Meanwhile youngsters watch the stuff in their bedrooms.
