Bredon 1, Newent Town 0
NEWLY promoted Bredon were given a baptism of fire by Newent in their first fixture of the new season.
From the whistle Newent pressed and outfought a disorganised Bredon who were fortunate not to concede when a ferocious shot cannoned off the underside of the bar, the follow up shot skimmed the outside of the post.
The pattern of the first half was set and Bredon were second to every ball and clearly rattled.
Half time provided much needed respite and Bredon resumed play in a more organised fashion. Their football at last became more sophisticated and for the first time they began to pressure the Newent goal.
This pressure provided the only goal when a hurried clearance sat up nicely for midfielder Danny Chesman whose sweetly struck volley flew into the net.
The game then became a more open affair as Newent pressed for some reward and Bredon countered through a rejuvenated Neil Hook.
