WITH reference to your article regarding the state of Kidderminster and the suggestion that community groups should clean up the town, I am sure that most people would agree that it is the council's job to clean our streets and the job of the police to catch and prosecute anyone defacing property or dropping litter.
That's what we pay taxes for.
However, it appears that it all comes down to resources and money.
In April as part of Keep Britain Tidy Week I organised a successful litter pick around Bewdley and we collected 12 large bags of rubbish.
This Sunday I am organising a clean-up where we hope to remove all the weeds from the tops of the quay walls along Severnside North and South between 8am and noon.
To do a good job we need lots of volunteers, so if anyone is free during these times please come along. Bring a hoe or broom if you can and show that you care about your town.
Free tea and biscuits will be served in the town hall at noon.
Soon, four more life buoys will be fitted to the railings along Severnside North and South.
These were provided by a partnership of the town and district councils and the highways partnership and I hope that the highways department will look on the weed clearing as a partnership and, for their contribution, paint the railings.
