"SPORT 2000" and all that it encompasses - enhanced sport facilities for all the pupils at Lacon Childe School and adults in and around Cleobury Mortimer, a piece of land made available to build a brand new purpose-built community hall, a community park and increased trade for the town - can only be made possible by selling 1.9 acres of land (part of the Lacon Childe School playing field) by Shropshire County Council for housing development.
In the 41 years that I have lived in Cleobury Mortimer this is the only piece of land which could become available for a housing development, and the proceeds used for the benefit of everyone in Cleobury Mortimer.
I have seen many houses built in Cleobury Mortimer since 1959 - The Furlongs, where I lived, Catherton Road, Lea View, Larks Rise, Tenbury Road, Simon Evans Close, Grove Meadow, Orchard End, Woodland Rise, Hartmann Close, Vaughan Road, Nursery Close and more.
Where would we have lived had these houses not been built?
Now there is an opportunity for the people of Cleobury Mortimer to reap some benefit from improved and increased facilities from the sale of this piece of land. Let's go for it.
SHAUNAH MURRELL
District councillor
Castle Hill, Cleobury Mortimer
