KIDDERMINSTER'S Malcolm Oldnall caused one of the major shocks in the Yoplat All England Bowls Championships when he took the scalp of newly-crowned triples title holder Stan Lant from Northumberland in the opening round of the singles at Worthing last night.
Lant, an England international from the Northern Electric club, Benton, led 4-3 after five ends, but Brintons club player Oldnall went on a scoring rampage, piling up 14 shots over the next six sends to leap into a 17-4 lead.
Lant pulled back a single at the next, but Oldnall was soon back in the driving seat, swiftly pounding Lant with a treble and a single to land a knock-out punch, winning 21-5.
Oldnall now faces Simon Pettingel from the Popesmead club, Crawley, later today for a place in the last 16.
