A NATIONAL nightclub chain is set to bring a feast of high profile live entertainment to Kidderminster when it sets up shop in the town next month.
Zanzibar, which is due for a mid-September launch, promises five bars, live bands, cabaret and showman DJs in a bid to upstage its competition.
The 1,500 capacity venue is currently being completed at premises on Castle Road - formerly home to Knights Nightclub, which closed last year.
The new club will be hoping for success as it brings acts such as Backbeat Beatles, Killer Queen, The Nolans, The New Drifters, Michael Greco, KWS, Limahl, Martin Kemp, Alexander O'Neal and Edwin Starr to Wyre Forest.
Springwood Leisure has 11 other Zanzibar clubs, based mostly around the Midlands, and is hoping to appeal to a wide range of people.
Marketing manager Paul Cowen said: "The basic difference with Zanzibar is that we appeal to people aged from 20 up to about 50.
"It's a mainstream club which plays commercial music from across the board - DJs play music from the 60s up to the present day."
The new African-themed club will be split across two floors with the "venue bar" Zanzibar Room downstairs and the "dancier" Club Zanzibar upstairs.
There will also be a restaurant and five bars as the staff bid to pull as many punters through its doors as possible.
The club aims to provide "a perfect night out for all ages" and will be opening every Thursday to Saturday from 8.30pm with live entertainment scheduled for a 10.15pm slot.
Mr Cowen said: "We've got another four openings coming up in the next five or six months.
"It is our intention to give the people of Kidderminster a late night entertainment complex of the highest quality and standards and good value for money.
"It is a small market town with good satellite towns and we aim to be very popular here."
