FOLLOWING last year's visit to Cadwell Park in the British Supersport Champion- ships, which ended in a broken wrist for Simon Andrews, this years Bank Holiday Monday proved to be a real scorcher for the Wick-hamford teenager riding the Unilock Const- ruction Hondas, racing in front of record crowds.
Qualifying in 22nd position against some very experienced riders, Andrews started on the sixth row, with only seven tenths of a second splitting riders from tenth to 24th position on the grid.
Although the weekend had been sunny and dry, as the team prepared for the race, thunder started to roll around the skies.
With the team already in the pit lane, the number two bike was quickly changed to wet tyres just before the heavens opened and the rain came down in stair rods.
This gave Andrews wet track knowledge from the five minutes of wet practice before the start.
The riders accelerated away from the start in a wall of spray. The young racer gained at least four places by the end of the start/finish straight.
As the race progressed rider after rider was reeled in, slipstreamed and then overtaken until the last lap when Andrews crossed the line triumphantly in 12th position.
Once again he was the seventh fastest man on the track in the 600cc Supersport race.
The next race is at Mallory Park on Sun-day, September 17.
