POLICE have been granted an extra 36 hours to quiz a man about a rape in a Worcester park.
Detectives are questioning the man after a woman was attacked in Gheluvelt Park, Barbourne, late on Sunday.
He was arrested on Wednesday, but police officers have not revealed if he is from the city.
A major hunt was launched after the 40-year-old woman was raped in the children's play area.
Det Insp Graham Smith, who is leading the investigation, said he was pleased with the response to appeals for information.
But two women who were waiting at a bus stop in the Droitwich Road area around the time of the attack, between 11.15-11.30pm, have still not been traced.
"I believe they may have information that will help in our inquiries," said Det Insp Smith.
A spokeswoman for Worcester police said today that magistrates had granted detectives an extra 36 hours to quiz the man.
They have until Saturday afternoon to charge him or release him.
Anyone with information about the attack is being urged to call Worcester police on 01905 723888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
