A MALVERN man has written to Prime Minister Tony Blair over what he describes as a threat to religious freedom.
And he is urging Christians as well as followers of other faiths to follow suit to defend their faiths.
Ralph Rowbotham, of Cowleigh Road, says the problem arises from a new European law, which prohibits organisations from refusing to employ a person because of their religious views.
He said: "Protection for religious groups is limited to the post of church minister or religious education teachers in church schools. Any other posts are not protected. This means a church advertising for a committed Christian to work as a church school secretary might be sued if an atheist goes for the job and is rejected. Other faiths will face the same problems.
"I would urge all Christians, and people of other religions, to write to Tony Blair as soon as possible to make their feelings known."
