MATHON, Cradley & Storridge Tennis Club have just completed a very successful Summer league season.
The year started promisingly with six new men joining from a number of other local league clubs. This strengthened the men's squad tremendously and the two men's teams have both recorded some excellent results during the summer.
The Men's A squad of James Plant, Alan Cooper, Steve Meredith, Ben Ward and Mark Kavanagh won Division Four when they defeated Tenbury in the last match of the season. They will now move up to Combined Division Three next season which will mean fielding three pairs instead of two.
The Men's B squad of Chris Brandon-White, Paul Grubb, Duncan Hannaford, Laurie Smith, Tony Dalley and Jack Hadley won every match in Division Five and will now replace the A team in Division Four.
The A team will be hoping that Dean Gibbard who has been injured all season will be fit for next summer.
The Ladies A team had a disappointing season finishing fourth out of five but avoiding relegation to Division Five. The Ladies B team under the captaincy of Tiggy Boak finished second in Division Six.
The Mixed A team managed to hold their own and finish in mid-table in their league whilst the Mixed B team won all their matches except one and finished in second place behind pershore which should see them promoted.
The winter leagues start in October and as well as the usual outdoor leagues the Club will be competing in the Manor Park Indoor Mixed League and the Whitecross Floodlit League.
The Club will also be running a weekly social session at the Manor Park Indoor Centre.
Anyone interested in playing either competitive or social tennis is invited to come down to the Club in Harcourt Road, West Malvern on a Sunday morning or a Wednesday or Friday evening or contact the membership secretary Pat Pugh on (01531) 640682.
