A MYSTERY man found dead in a Coventry hotel room has been identified, thanks to the Evening News.
The man, who was discovered at the Ibis Hotel in Cheylesmore on Sunday, August 20, is believed to come from the Stourbridge area and not Worcester, as previously thought.
But West Midlands Police said they could not release details of the man until formal identification had been carried out at the start of next week.
Officers said that, as a result of an appeal with a photograph made in Thursday's Evening News, a reader recognised the man from his son's pub in Stourbridge.
He e-mailed a copy to his son, who knew the man as "Cockney John", who drank regularly in the pub.
West Midlands Police had made repeated appeals for information about the man, who gave his address to the hotel as Foregate Street, Worcester, and signed the register as Curtis or John Smith, born on June 5, 1961.
