THE Labour candidate vying to represent Droitwich Spa in Parliament has spoken to the Advertiser about his plans.

David Bannister is standing for the Mid-Worcestershire seat, which includes the Spa, in the next General Election.

Tory MP Peter Luff currently holds the seat.

David, aged 36, originally comes from Halesowen but has settled in Claines, Worcester, with his partner, Jackie, and their 20-month-old daughter, Ellie.

He is a senior research engineer with a MSc degree in physics and a councillor on Worcester City Council.

David told the Advertiser: "My main reason for standing is to represent the interests of local people and enable Droitwich residents to take advantage of opportunities made available by policies introduced by the present Labour Government."

"Spa residents are aware that the drastic reductions which have occurred in both long-term and youth employment in this constituency are the direct result of Labour's policies."

He said: "However, there is much more to be done and having a Conservative MP who is only willing to back policies of William Hague's party cannot be in the best interest of the town, or of Mid-Worcestershire as a whole."

David will soon become a familiar face in the town as he launches his election campaign.

He added: "If elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure that Mid-Worcestershire shares in the fruits of Labour's agenda of economic success and social justice.

"We cannot allow the policies of an increasingly right-wing Tory Party to hold back regions such as ours, which rely on Britain being a strong trading nation at the heart of a successful Europe."
