AN active town councillor wants to see more bobbies on the beat in Droitwich Spa.
Two years ag Droitwich Spa Town Council and Droit-wich Spa Association for Retail, Tourism and Services took part in an initiative to buy uniforms for four special constables.
Cllr John Cook (Lab, Droit.West) claims he has yet to see these volunteers and is calling for a greater police presence in the town.
"People don't want to see police in patrol cars, they want to see them on foot," he said.
"I am aware Droitwich police have a large area to cover but we want to be reassured of our safety and more officers are needed during the daytime and on Saturdays."
Spa beat manager PC Alun Jones said: "In 1998, special constables in Droitwich were down to less than ten.
"Since then there has been an active and successful recru-itment campaign which has brought the current total to 17."
"They are a valuable addition to our strength and are making an impact," he added.
