DROITWICH teenager Luke Hughes won last Tuesday's Steadfast Junior Open fished on the Meadow Pool.
Fourteen-year-old Hughes pole fished corn up in the water at peg 52 for 67-8-0 of carp, while second was Mark Rogers (Stratford) 50-8-0 and third went to Grant Nock (West Bromwich) 49-14-0.
Over on the Bank and Moors Pools, the Starlets Veterans, Northfield, held their weekly event which saw Terry Kavanagh (Stourbridge) take the number one spot with a 45-13-0 catch of carp taken with pole and meat from Bank peg 17.
Second place went to Harold Willey (Kidderminster) 36-8-0, third John Joyce (Rubery) 35-12-0. On Wednesday, the Astwood Fishery Bluebell Pool Open saw a close fought match topped by Mark Roberson (Stoke Prior) with 28-7-0 of corn-fed carp from peg 23, with Gary Kirkham (Astwood) in second place with 25-3-0, third Alan Hodgkins (Phoenix) 25-2-0.
Wayne Mellings (Fosters Tipton) was the ton-up man at the Moorlands Farm Open when he pole fished meat up in the water at Meadow Pool peg 44 for 106-8-0, second place was Matt Jackson (Pendragon) 99-10-0, third Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) 93-8-0.
The Wyre Forest Fishery Furnace Mill continues to fish well and at the Bank Holiday Monday Open, Phil Coles (Furnace Mill) pole fished maggots at peg 47 on the Mucky Meadow Pool for a top catch 85-2-0 of carp. Vladmer Giochev (Furnace Mill) followed with 41-0-0 and third went to Alan Gibbs (Ladywood Social AC) 34-8-0.
The Board Acres Holiday Open was won by Graham Upton (Athol AC) with a last hour carp catch of 27-6-0 taken with pole and corn from the margins of peg 30, second Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure) 24-2-0, third Harry Brotherton (AAA) 21-11-0.
More big catches were recorded at Moorlands Farm with Ian Giddins (Storey's) pole fishing corn for 159-3-0 from Meadow Pool peg 19, runner-up Mick Henshaw (Fosters MG) had 137-14-0 and third went to Chris Hill (Fosters MG) 122-7-0. The Steadfast Junior Open was held on the Moors Pool where 11-year-old Danny Tasavyeh (Great Barr) pole fished corn at peg nine for 27-4-0.
Another ton-up catch was taken by John Mottershead (Trentside) at the three-hour Evening Open, his 109-15-0 haul came to pole fished corn up in the water at Meadow Pool peg 58, Dave Jordan (Fosters MG) was second with 61-10-0, third Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) 61-0-0.
The last of the six-match series of Leeda sponsored Junior Opens at Elmbridge's Peacock Pool saw Luke Hughes round off a good week with a winning 18-2-0 of carp and bream taken with pole and meat from peg four, second Tom Edwards (Cutnall Green) 15-5-0, third Dale Albutt (Cutnall Green) 9-13-0.
Luke topped the series points table with 39 and won a Leeda pole, Tom was a close second with 38.
Thursday saw Redditch 13-year-old Sam Newton (New End AC) win the Leeda Broad Acres Junior Open with 15-9-8 of carp taken with pole and meat from peg 23. Just an ounce adrift was Ben Sutor (Broad Acres Youth) 15-8-8 and third went to Lee Buckingham (Redditch) with 13-0-0. Sam scored the series top points tally of 25 and won a Leeda pole while his brother, Jake, and Peter Bailey were joint second with 26 points.
Luke and Sam will now fish a head-to-head match for the Leeda 2000 Trophy at Earlswood Engine House Carp Lake in October.
At Moorlands Farm, the Thursday Special Open was won by Bob Jones (Moorlands) with a waggler and meat catch of 86-1-0 from Meadow Pool peg 15, second place went to Sue Jaques (Mark's Tackle) with 80-13-0, third Roger Finch (Strettons) 76-11-0. Friday's Costcutter Open gave Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) his first win for a couple of weeks after many near misses when he pole fished corn at Bank Pool peg 16 for 78-4-0, second place went to Paul Cahill (Bartley Green) 75-12-0 and third was Mark Tooze (Lee Hall) 67-9-0.
At Woodlands View, the Afternoon Open was won by Chris Robson (AOK) by pole fishing corn at six metres at Deans Pool peg nine for 81-14-0, second Mick Henshaw (Fosters MG) 66-13-0, third Carl Ball (Spartans) 65-1-0. Saturday's Deans Pool Open was headed by Mark Westwood (Woodlands) by pole fishing corn and meat shallow at peg 30 for 137-8-0, second Mat Cox (Tromans) 91-0-0, third Rob Tymoscuk (Wolverhampton PO) 72-1-0.

On Sunday, the Astwood Fishery Open was held on the Smokey Joe Pool and it was won by Steve Williams (Matchbox) who pole fished corn and meat at peg 38 for 29-7-0 of carp, second Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure) 17-7-0, third Mark Roberson (Stoke Prior) 9-1-0.
Spartans team men dominated the Woodlands View Open by taking the top three places headed by Rob Cooksey with carp up to ten pounds in his 94-14-0 catch taken with pole corn and meat from Deans peg six. Wayne Knott followed with 74-0-0 and third was Chris Whitehouse 72-15-0. Topping the list at Alvechurch Fisheries Horseshoe Pool Open was Rob Gandley (Shakespeare) with pole fished chopped worm and casters at peg 12 with 63-14-0, second Paul Baird (Alvechurch) 61-12-0, third Ken Giles (Shakespeare) 53-1-0.
The Meadow Pool Open at Moorlands Farm saw a close result with Chris Hill (Fosters MG) in pole position with a pole and corn catch of 51-15-0 from Meadow Pool peg three, second Bob Jones (Moorlands) 51-6-0, third Ian Whitehouse (Team Wesson) 50-5-0.
The three-hour Meadow Pool Evening Event was won by John Mottershead (Trentside) with a ton-up catch of 102-15-0 from peg 46 taken with pole and casters. Runner-up Ian Giddins (Storey's) had 94-0-0 and third was Steve Clarke (Trentmen) with 70-2-0.
There's plenty of action at Moorlands Farm over the next few weeks, starting with the Annual King of Tons on Tuesday September 12. The event is for any angler who has caught a 100 pounds catch or more in any event at the venue.
