6 FORMER council leader David Barlow does neither himself nor the Labour Party any credit by raising the spectre of surcharging those councillors who quite properly stopped the awful Quayhead work.
The riverside is a vital part of an historic city. The view of the bridge, river and Cathedral is a picture postcard view, justifiably famous across Britain.
To have it spoiled by a piece of tat would be unforgivable.
The Quayhead scheme was the pet project of Labour councillors seduced by the reputation of an "avant-garde" artist.
It would have been flooded and needed city taxpayers' money spent to maintain it.
The scheme was so out of place that it would have made Worcester a laughing stock.
Many Worcester people have said that the scheme was unsuitable and unwanted.
I was not one of the councillors who voted to stop it but I would have done.
Coun Barlow's words are a crude attempt to intimidate Conservative councillors. It will not work.
This tactic is typical of an unfortunate trend since Labour lost control of the city council. A number of scare stories has been raised by Councillor Barlow and his band of bad losers. These tactics have produced an unpleasant atmosphere in the council, when we should all try to work together on the 98 per cent-plus of issues that are not party politics. It is time for them to stop.

Byfield Rise,
Worcester.
