Droitwich First XV 13
Bedworth First XV 10
IN a rearranged fixture on Saturday, Droitwich entertained Bedworth, who are one league above, in a physical but entertaining encounter.
Simon Mountjoy's penalty saw the home side take the lead, followed by a well worked try which culminated in the improving Dave Halsall taking the ball and dragging two defenders over the line with him. Mountjoy added the conversion.
Bedworth hit back with an unconverted try of their own. In the second half, both sides seemed to throw caution to the wind and opt for all-out attack, although Droitwich were hampered by the loss of influential skipper Nick Godfrey with a head injury.
The Droitwich defence held firm and they went on to extend their lead with another Mountjoy penalty. Wave after wave of Bedworth attack was repelled with Leon Hopkins, Matt Blackmore, the ever-versatile prop Greg Garfield and debutant Martin Smith particularly impressive in defence.
Bedworth eventually scored but it proved too late to affect the result.
