Bromsgrove Rovers (2) 3
Sutton Coldfield Town (1) 2
FA Cup preliminary round replay
IT may have only been the preliminary round, but this was Rovers' first win in the FA Cup for three years - and how it showed at the final whistle.
The relief was obvious as Sutton Coldfield almost clawed an equaliser in the dying seconds to force extra time.
But George Rooney's men held their nerve and can now look forward to a home clash with Oldbury United on September 16 in the first qualifying round.
Mark Burrow must have felt a touch of deja vu when he headed home a Mark Benbow cross on 16 minutes to open the scoring. The effort was almost identical to the goal which saw Rovers take three points from their league trip to Sutton last month.
Richard Burgess then thumped a low shot home through a sea of players on 24 minutes.
Rovers were on cloud nine but they may as well have been in cloud cuckoo land a minute later when Neil Began pulled a goal back from the resulting kick off.
The second half was a forgettable affair until Peter Sutton finished neatly on the hour after being sent through by Burgess.
Robin Judd handed the visitors a lifeline when he fired home from close range three minutes from time.
Thankfully for Rovers, it proved too little, too late.
Rovers: Gabbidon, Frost, Ulfig, Townsend, Joynson (sub Biddle 89 mins), Cooksey, Benbow, Burrow, Sutton, Burgess, M Beard.
Attendance: 227.
Rovers man of the match: Richard Burgess.
