ELDERLY people in Bromsgrove will be celebrating when a new £1m sheltered housing complex is officially opened on Friday.
Bromsgrove District Council's chairman, Cllr Ann Doyle (Con, Barnt Green), will cut the ribbon to mark the launch of the Oak Apple Court complex, in Acorn Road, Catshill.
The two-storey rural-style building offers 20 flats with access to a generous lounge and dining room, hobbies room, guest suite, kitchen, laundry and a bathroom with facilities for special needs.
The court is looked after by a resident warden and is linked to the council's Lifeline system, an alarm system installed in all council sheltered housing schemes.
Work began on the building in April 1999 and was completed in May this year.
Cllr Doyle said: "It will give me great pleasure and I will be proud to officially open the complex which will be the district's 22nd sheltered housing scheme for the elderly.
"I am delighted that this development will be the second sheltered housing scheme in the Catshill area, where it is much needed."
