THE Evesham club was bathed in warm sunshine with gentle breezes last Sunday for their two races.
Ian Haywood won both events but just to name the winner fails to do justice to his efforts.
In the first race he was the lead boat away, made a severe mistake at the first bouy by sailing the wrong course, which some followed, on the next lap he repeated the mistake, but alone this time and on both occasions he found himself at the back.
He came through to win ahead of Ian Edwards and Roger Middleton in his new comet.
The second race saw Haywood take a time penalty right at the beginning which meant he had to finish more than a minute in front of the opposition.
Try as he might, Middleton couldn't keep up and was always adrift of the time required.
Third place was hotly contested with Edwards, John Pickford and David Way taking it in turns to lead one another by half a boat but eventually it was Haywood first, Middleton second and Edwards third after an absorbing contest.
