EVESHAM Archery Club's Simon Tarplee competed in the National Compound Bow Championships and finished runner up by one point after a nail-biting finale.
The tournament was shot throughout at 70 metres and the European champion compiled 680 in the FITA 720 qualifier to be seeded third for the knockout stage.
He made steady progress through the head to head rounds and faced world silver medalist Steve Goo-den of Grampian Suffolk in the final.
Tarplee led by one point going into the concluding end in which Gooden shooting first recorded two tens and a nine.
He replied with a ten and a nine then saw disastrously his last arrow hit in the eight zone.
